Ross Lynch Wanted His Fans To Be 'Shocked' By 'My Friend Dahmer' Role

We probably won’t see Ross Lynch in any roles like Austin Moon anytime soon, or ever again, actually.

Speaking with W Magazine, the actor/musician opened up about his reasoning for signing on for his newest role in My Friend Dahmer — and it’s exactly what you think.

“I liked the fact that people were going to be shocked by it,” Ross shared. “If you would have told me five years ago that I would be playing a serial killer right now, I’d be like, No way in h***.”

While he didn’t handpick the role for himself, portraying a young Jeffrey Dahmer was “intentional.”

He adds that he still sympathizes with the serial killer, who died before he was born.

“Oh, definitely,” Ross adds. “You’ve got to empathize with every character you play. But when I first read the script, what shocked me the most is that by the end of it, I was sad, really, for all parties.”

My Friend Dahmer is now showing in limited theaters across the country.

First reported by W mag, the My Friend Dahmer actor and Aussie actress and model Courtney had been dating since 2015.

The news comes just after Ross defended Courtney on social media when a troll began to report all of their pics together as “inappropriate” on Instagram.

“There are somethings in this world that are just not worth worrying about. Courtney knows how much she means to me and thats that,” he wrote at the time.

Courtney actually starred in R5‘s music video for “I Know You Got Away”, which Ross directed.

The two will star in the upcoming Status Update together.

Ross Lynch's Disney Background Actually Helped Him in Winning the Title Role in 'My Friend Dahmer'

Ross Lynch‘s brand new movie, My Friend Dahmer, is making headlines all over the world right now.

However, did you ever stop to think just how the 21-year-old actor won the part of the young serial killer? Director Marc Meyers opened up to Playlist about how Ross won the part.

“Some people think it’s a stunt — from Disney to Dahmer,” the director shared. “It really wasn’t.”

Apparently, Marc met Ross in the lobby of a New York hotel and “I just immediately felt like he had all the elements I was looking for.”

“He has enough of the likeness [of Jeffrey Dahmer] that I could pull it off, and it got even better with the glasses and the wardrobe,” Marc added. “But he’s also a dancer, singer, and performer really trained by Disney, so he’s just really versatile. He has the posture, the gait, and he really got it.”

While Disney might have hindered most in this, it actually helped Ross. After submitting an audition for the part, Marc revealed that Ross actually spent even more time studying interviews with Dahmer and another two hours in New York auditioning in character.

My Friend Dahmer, also starring Alex Wolff, is out in theaters now.

Calum Worthy Gave Us All The 'Austin & Ally' Reunions This Weekend

Calum Worthy is officially after our hearts.

He added later, before catching up with Ross: “I’ve known Ross for a long time but tonight I forgot I was watching him and truly believed I was watching Jeffrey Dahmer. His performance is both captivating and inspiring. Please go see ‘My Friend Dahmer’.”

All we’re wondering now is just where was Laura Marano when all this was happening?

Ross Lynch portrays a serial killer in the making in his new movie, My Friend Dahmer.

Speaking with Newsweek, the 21-year-old actor reveals just how he feels about Jeffrey Dahmer now, after playing him in the movie: he’s compassionate.

“He was just a really lonely dude, and everyone in his life abandoned him. Can you imagine being his father? I just can’t,” Ross says.

He adds that while watching the interviews to prepare for his role, he was particularly interesting in Dahmer’s father.

“You can see on tape that he’s still his son and they still embrace,” he says. “He pats his leg at one point, like, It’s OK, you’re doing the right thing now by telling the authorities.”
