Rowan Blanchard Says She's Insecure 'Every Day'

Rowan Blanchard Says She's Insecure 'Every Day'

Rowan Blanchard admits that she feels pressure to look a certain way, just like millions of other girls out there.

When asked to give advice to other girls who feel pressure by society, Rowan told Coveteur, “I mean, I feel that pressure to look a certain way [too], so I don’t feel totally exempt from this or like I have this figured out.”

“But I think we feel that pressure to look a certain way because we were told we have to look a certain way, so it’s only natural that we feel like we have to. I grew up with a lot of magazines that were marketed towards teens that had headlines about how you can lose weight, or how you can look ‘fit,’ or how you can get a ‘bikini body,’” she added.

“Those types of headlines inherently breed that sort of self-loathing young women already have. Specific advice I give myself whenever I feel very insecure, or insecure about my body, or how I look in a dress—all of these things—I try to tell myself that a lot of it is in my head. This is a hard one, because I’m still a teenager who’s insecure every day,” Rowan concluded.

Girls, you’re not alone, but please everyone know that you are perfect the way you are!

Rowan Blanchard Opens Up About How She Takes Care of Her Mental Health

Rowan Blanchard Opens Up About How She Takes Care of Her Mental Health

Rowan Blanchard is always looking out for her mental health and speaking with Coveteur recently, dished about how she does it.

The Goldbergs actress revealed that just going on a walk helps her out tremendously.

“Or doing some sort of timed activity where I can just listen to music and not really think about anything else,” she says. “That definitely helps your mental health, and so does trying to stay off social media as much as possible.”

Rowan adds that books are part of her daily routine — actual real books, not ebooks — “Because I feel like a phone, subconsciously, probably really stresses us out.”

She also opened up about her definition of strong, which will inspire you tons.

“I would describe being strong as when you’re being truthful and honest,” Rowan says. “We have perceptions of ‘strong,’ especially for women, that very generically mean feeling empowered—whatever that means—and feeling super confident and invincible.”

“Personally, I feel like strong is whenever you’re telling the truth to yourself, even if that means feeling insecure and feeling sad. That’s still strong because you’re not lying to yourself or to the world.”

Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter are both starring in the new Converse campaign — and it’s giving us all the Girl Meets World feels.

Especially since, while speaking with Vogue, Rowan revealed that they actually used to dress alike on set!

“When we were doing Girl, we grew up and discovered [our] style together,” Rowan shared. “We would plan out our outfits for the next day on set and were definitely very into each other’s style.”

She adds, “You want to look cool, and you are really inspired by what your friends are wearing. Sabrina and I were each other’s references for that.”

Sabrina also shared about reconnecting with Rowan on a style level.

“We’ve almost traveled different paths since the show ended, but to meet up in a place that we both can relate to and identify with is cool,” she shared.

“I was just looking at Rowan’s pictures that came out and she looks amazing. I love that we both can relate and identify with this brand and everything that it stands for.”

Storm Reid & Rowan Blanchard Speak On Stage At 'Teen Vogue' Summit

Storm Reid and Rowan Blanchard share the stage while attending the Teen Vogue Summit LA on Saturday (December 2) in Playa Vista, Calif.

The young co-stars were joined by their A Wrinkle In Time director Ava DuVernay, as well as their co-star Reese Witherspoon‘s daughter Ava Phillippe.

Also in attendance were Yara Shahidi, Aly & AJ, Lilly Singh, Chloe x Halle, and Hillary Clinton.

Yara also interviewed Hillary during a keynote conversation at the event.

“I’m glad that I’m here at 14 saying that it’s not right to inspire other young girls to say ‘it’s not right’ too,” Storm said at the event. “If it’s happening to you, speak up, don’t be afraid. There’s nothing they can do, even if they say they’re going to do something, there’s nothing they can do. You need to speak up, you need to speak out, not only for yourself, but for other young women that feel threatened, not only in this industry, but in other industries.”

FYI: Rowan is wearing Repossi jewelry. Storm is wearing a Ji Oh outfit and Rebecca Minkoff boots. Yara is wearing a 3.1 Phillip Lim top and pants, Jimmy Choo shoes, Young Frankk earrings, and an Eriness necklace and rings. Ava is wearing a L’Agence dress, Malone Souliers shoes, and Lady Grey earrings. Chloe and Halle are wearing Missoni.

Rowan Blanchard Reveals She Almost Didn't Say Yes to 'Girl Meets World'

Rowan Blanchard Reveals She Almost Didn't Say Yes to 'Girl Meets World'

Rowan Blanchard graces the cover of Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, and is opening up about her time on Disney, bringing a voice to young adults, feminism and more.

The biggest revelation from her interview though is that she almost passed on the role of Riley Matthews on Girl Meets World, the daughter of Cory and Topanga.

“My agent sent over Girl Meets World. I was like, ‘I will not do Disney ever in my life,’” she shared. “I watched Disney, but I thought that if you wanted to be a serious film actress then you couldn’t be a Disney actress.”

Rowan continues, “Which is partially true – I do have to work harder to be taken seriously.”

Thankfully, she did accept the role, but it didn’t come without it’s challenges.

The series, which was cancelled after only three seasons, started talking about serious issues and Rowan was proud to be a part of that.

“We started thinking about what it could be like if we made this show that was funny for kids, but was also teaching them something,” she says. “Then, when I started discovering activism, I think it made the show that much better, because we were really getting into these topics, having conversations… If I didn’t like something I would talk to [the writers] about it.”

Rowan adds, “It was nice to feel heard and to be respected in a way that I didn’t necessarily feel on a lot of sets that I’d worked on previously.”

Rowan Blanchard on Teens Having A Voice: 'We Don't Want To Be Told It's All Going To Be Okay'

Rowan Blanchard on Teens Having A Voice: 'We Don't Want To Be Told It's All Going To Be Okay'

Rowan Blanchard keeps it chic at the Gucci & Maxfield Event in Los Angeles on Thursday night (November 9).

The actress and activist recently opened up to Elle mag about young adults having a big voice that no one is listening to.

“Teenagers have a legitimate voice,” she says in response of all the unrest going around in the world right now. “We deserve to have a seat at the table and a place in the conversation. We’re not exempt from politics and social movements; we’re affected by them.”

Rowan adds, “I was really lucky to grow up around people who encouraged that. So things like, ‘Just be kids, don’t get into politics!’ And, ‘Why do you care about that right now? Just have fun!’ Those kinds of comments are hard, because what’s happening in the world, with the environment, with politics and international affairs—it affects us just as much as it affects every other citizen.”

“We don’t want to be told, ‘It’s all going to be okay.’ We want to talk honestly about what’s happening and what we can do.”
