Austin Butler Dishes On How Much He Related to 'Shannara Chronicles' Wil

You might not know this about Austin Butler, but he was once a loner, just like his character Wil on The Shannara Chronicles.

Because of that, Austin says it was easy to relate to him.

“Season 1, he’s very much the fish out of water. He’s the outsider where he’s never felt at home, really. I’ve definitely felt that,” he shared recently at NYCC.

Austin continues, “I remember, growing up before I met any actors, I was like, ‘I don’t fit in with the sports kids.’ I just didn’t feel like I fit in. I was very much a loner.”

But then he found where he fit in, and found a “tribe”.

“That was such a nice feeling. To not feel alone. So, that played into it a lot,” Austin adds. “Feeling uncomfortable in my own skin for years and then having to dig down inside and find where the strength is. … For Wil, it really started when he lost his mom.”

“I’ve gone through some really close things and that caused me to have to dig in and say, ‘What am I living for?’ When you experience that sort of pain, what’s life about? It sounds super-deep and weird. It’s, like, we’re talking about a fantasy show, but that’s what I always look for.”

Poppy Drayton Says 'Amberle Is Always With You' To Fans Ahead of 'Shannara Chronicles' Premiere

Poppy Drayton Says 'Amberle Is Always With You' To Fans Ahead of 'Shannara Chronicles' Premiere

Poppy Drayton loves her Shannara Chronicles fans just as much as they love Amberle.

Just ahead of the premiere last night, Poppy took to Twitter sending the sweet message to her fans.

“Amberle is always with you,” she wrote. “Watch my friends & some amazing new cast pull out all the stops.”

While many fans were thinking that Amberle wouldn’t be in the premiere at all, they were wrong and she actually was!

After ending up in the water after a battle with some trolls, Eretria (who doesn’t know that Amberle turned into the Ellcrys tree at the end of season one) sees a vision of Amberle there.

The vision warns her about a new darkness is coming, and the fate of the world depends on her finding Wil.

Wil Heals Himself with Magic Stones in 'Shannara Chronicles' Season 2 Premiere Clip - Watch Now!

Wil (Austin Butler) isn’t taking any chances in getting kicked out of Storlock in this new clip from the premiere of The Shannara Chronicles.

Luckily for him, he still has his magic stones to heal himself, which before he uses them, he tells Mareth (Malese Jow) to “enjoy the show”.

In season two, The Four Lands is in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer.

But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight. After reuniting with Eretria, Wil and Mareth seek out Allanon, only to learn that the Druid’s former protégé, Bandon, is on a mission to resurrect a creature of darkest evil: The Warlock Lord.

Together, our heroes must band together to take down The Crimson and prevent Bandon from unleashing an even greater threat upon the Four Lands, before it’s too late.

Austin Butler Teases What Wil Is Doing & Feeling in 'Shannara Chronicles' Season 2

Austin Butler Teases What Wil Is Doing & Feeling in 'Shannara Chronicles' Season 2

Austin Butler teams up with his co-stars Vanessa Morgan, Ivana Baquero, and Manu Bennett for a shot on the press line during 2017 New York Comic Con over the weekend.

The Shannara Chronicles stars spoke about the upcoming second season, which premieres on Wednesday on Spike.

In the new season, it’s a year later and people are not reacting to the re-introduction of magic well and it’s something that Austin‘s Wil is feeling too, and in despair.

“Because it is a year later, I just really played with that feeling of despair,” Austin shared. “The feeling of like, ’I’m doing my best but what am I here for?’”

He adds about seeing Wil in the place he was after in the first place: “It was really interesting to have the same character but really dig into that. Think about – when life starts getting really messy and we start changing as humans. Are we the same person? Can we find love again? Can we find hope again?”

Meanwhile, Manu (Allanon) opened up about one scene that even took him by surprise.

“There’s a big game changer half way through the season that really surprised me,” he says. “They sort of kept it as a big secret and that’s all I can say…”

He added, “But what I do know is that those things we’re talking about in the first season about Allanon’s involvement and relationship with various characters, I got a lot of opportunity this season to get gritty with quite a few characters actually. Wil is one of them.”

Be sure to check back for more Shannara info and tune into the premiere on Wednesday, October 11th on Spike!

Shannara Chronicles' Ivana Baquero Reveals Season 2 Is The Gap Between Books 2 & 3

Ivana Baquero is opening up all about Eretria ahead of The Shannara Chronicles season two premiere.

During her appearance at BUILD Series in New York City on Friday (October 6), the actress dished about learning even more things for season two and just where we are when the series returns.

“For this season, it’s the gap between books two and three,” she shared. “We have some creative liberties there…and for fans, who are wondering what happened between those two books, this is it. It’s super cool.”

“Out of everyone, I think that Eretria drifts most from the books,” Ivana reveals. In fact, her story is going to be much bigger.

Ivana adds that “she’ll find out what that tattoo means on her back, where she is from, and who her parents really are.”

Wil & Eretria Have An Unbreakable Bond on 'Shannara Chronicles', Ivana Baquero Says

We’re only a week away from The Shannara Chronicles season two premiere and Ivana Baquero is giving us just a little taste of what we’re going to see.

There are new characters, a new big bad in The Crimson, and there’s life beyond Arborlon in The Four Lands — but one thing will never change and that’s Eretria and Wil’s bond.

“Whether romantically or not, Wil and Eretria will always be destined to have a future together,” Ivana shared in a recent interview.

She adds, “They’ve been through so much together that inevitably they share a unique and unbreakable bond. Amidst pains and scars left behind from Season 1, Wil and Eretria will find a way to each other in Season 2.”

The Shannara Chronicles returns on Wednesday, October 11th @ 10PM ET/PT on Spike.

Malese Jow & Vanessa Morgan Tease Their New Characters in 'Shannara Chronicles' Season Two

Malese Jow & Vanessa Morgan Tease Their New Characters in 'Shannara Chronicles' Season Two

Malese Jow is getting pumped about the debut of The Shannara Chronicles season two.

The actress will be starring in the new season as Mareth, who she says brings some edge to the show.

“She’s very mysterious when we first met her,” Malese adds. “She has an innate magic.”

Mareth actually saves Wil from an attack in the show, is “both volatile and unpredictable — and possesses magical abilities. Sharp, brash and independent to a fault, Mareth gets what she wants on her own terms (by any means necessary).”
